“Join the story…
A painting sucks life from the artist through the palette knife and spreads it on the paper. Not just the snapshot of a moment, but a cacophony of experiences and emotions, an hour, a day, a month of living, layered into the paint and frozen in time. The painting you hold is a portion of Susy’s life… in a homeless shelter. We painted together under her guidance—trading paintbrush and palette knife, pushing acrylic paint around the same piece of watercolor paper until we liked what we saw. Susy, with her new husband and four children, raw and broken, in love then angry, painted with ashes and found beauty. Using different words, Susy told me that the darkness that dominates a corner gives it shape, adds depth and communicates understanding, love, and forgiveness when you step back to see the whole picture. She told me that darkness becomes joy when seen in the context of God’s compassion. She said, “Never give up! God is with you in everything.” She saw God pour out His love on her world of torment and in the midst of chaos give her peace. Susy made a painting with her life and her life is beautiful. Can you relate to her story? Have you seen darkness in your life turned to beauty? Will you share the wisdom that shines through your pain on our blog? After you share, give this picture to someone else. You can follow your picture’s journey around the world at rickstillartist.com/the-stories…”
